PEEPAL The God’s Tree

Peepal or Ashwtha (the tree of life) is of great importance in Ayurveda, the earliest known depicted tree in India, is native to the Indian sub-continent and can also be located in Tibet and China as well. Commonly planted near temples is regarded as sacred tree having religious significance. It is used for about 50 types of disorders including bronchitis, diabetes, blood diseases, diarrhoeal affection, mouth ulcer, genital disorders, sexual disorders in traditional medicines.

 Almost all parts of tree bark, leaves, shoots, fruits seeds and latex are used for medicinal purpose. This tree is remarkable because it grows both upwards as well as top to bottom. The branches themselves morph into roots. So, even if the original tree decays and perishes, its branches underneath are young & continue to enclose the parents.  There are many stories related to this tree according to Skanda purana peepal tree is considered as the symbol of Vishnu. Vishnu is believed to have been born under this tree. Some believe it abode of Trimurti, Brahma, Vishnu & Mahesh. Lakshmi is also believed to inhabit the tree on Saturday. Thus,  is considered lucky to touch the tree on Saturdays.

It is believed that if one does not have a male child, peepal should be regarded as one, as long as the tree lives, family name will continue. Thus, people circle around peepal tree for progeny. It has been proved by scientific research that the air that by passes the tree of peepal cures uterus & menstrual cycle related other problems. This holy Peepal tree is not only worshiped in hindu religion, Jains and buddhist fraternity  also share this great faith. Lord Buddha had enlightment under this tree.

According to Buddhist- The peepal tree has its own symbolic meaning of enlightenment & peace.
Active principles: Peepal tree constitutes tannins, saponins, flavonoids, steroids, terpenoids and cardiac glycosides.
