Triphala is considered as the most powerful medicine in ayurveda, a polyherbal formula with efficacious therapeutic uses for maintaining the health of eyes and treating eye disorders. It is the combination of three fruits harad, bahera and amla. Harad is called as vyasthapni in Ayurveda; means antiaging. It is also quoted as rasayan means that prevents the occurrence of diseases. Bahera is called as netrahitam means beneficial for eyes and amla is considered chakshushya means good for eyes and gives strength to the tunics of eye ball. All these herbs have the history of very long traditional use. Their combination has synergestic properties and have major constituents like tannins, galtic acid, ellagic acid and many bioactive compounds. Considered safe for all age groups, it can be used as nontoxic natural product. Triphala is a revered polyherbal medicine which helps to maintain homeostasis. It acts as an anti inflammatory, antioxidant, cytoprotective and digestive. Being anti-inflammatory, it is effective in auto immune diseases of eyes. Helps reducing serum cholesterol level, thus beneficial in controlling the retinal damage due to the unhealthy lipids. Triphala also works as antihypertensive and hypoglycemic medicine, thus plays a major role in managing blood sugar and blood pressure level thereby protecting the delicate retinal layer of eye. Further, this herbal combination stimulates digestive enzymes so helps in the absorption of essential nutrients in the blood. Being immuno booster, also helps in protecting the eyes from microbial infections or other environmental hazards. Due to anti aging and antioxidant properties, this herbal combination works wonders in delaying age related eye disorders like presbyopia, cataract and macular degenerations by removing free radicals.
