Know about Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

It is a syndrome in which multiple cysts are formed in the ovaries leading to anovulatory cycles in the women of reproductive age. Ayurveda classifies PCOS as kapha and vata disorder leading to imbalance in the functioning of ovulation.

CAUSES FOR PCOS
1)    Heredity 
2)    Life styles disorders  include intake of junk and fried food, food with high glycemic index, caffeine, red meat, white rice, white sugar, sleeping during daytime , excess anger, fear, sorrowness, mental stress, lack of exercise, excess use of  dairy products 
3)    Increased level of insulin in blood 
4)    Abnormal high production of androgen by ovaries 
 

FEATURES
1)    Irregular or no menstrual periods 
2)    Excess body and facial hair 
3)    Acne 
4)    Infertility 
5)    Thickening and hyperpigmentation of the skin usually at the nap of neck, axilla, beneath the breast  and exposed areas that is elbows and knuckles.
It is diagnosed by  ultrasonography and hormonal estimation as there is disturbed LH and FSH ratio and raised androgens

DO'S & DON'TS
1.    Avoid caffeine.
2.    Do meditation and yoga.
3.    Avoid  junk food and sweets.
4.    Reduce carbohydrates intake. 
5.    Avoid refined sugar and refined flour.
6.    Take breakfast in time and not to miss it . It helps in improving ovulation.
7.    Regular exercises-3 hrs exercise in a week  to improve  insulin sensitivity and to decrease fat 
8.    Take healthy fat that is omega 3 fatty acids present in olive oil, flax seeds & sunflower oil.
