SHATKARMAS AND ITS IMPORTANCE IN DAY TO DAY LIFE OR INTERNAL PURIFICATION

Human body needs a kind of physical training to show its efficient results. These results are gained by practicing the so called “Shatkarma” which are able to bring good results if practiced for ever.
Body cleansing is gained through the practice of Shatkarmas or the six purificatory techniques. They are very important from the point of view of physical and mental health and these simple techniques are also highly valuable in healing internal disorders.
Shatkarmas: The word 'Shatkarma' is originated by the combination of two words 'Shat' and 'Karma'. Shat means six, karma means action or kriyas. Hence Shatkarma consists of six processes of purification such as panchakarma of Ayurveda.
The aspirant should practice the Shatkarmas namely Dhouti, Basti, Neti, Nauli, Trataka and Kapalabhati.
1. DHOUTI (Washing up of the Digestive Tract): Dhouti is a kind of penance consisting of washing strip of white cloth, swallowing it and then drawing it out of the mouth. Dhouti means to wash out. As the name itself suggests, this process is suggested for washing stomach and intestines. Dhouti kriya should be well carried out in the early morning and empty stomach after evacuation of the bowels.

The traditional family system in our country has encouraged the elderly to live with the family. It has always been recognized that the mental health and physical health are perhaps better when the elderly life along with the family. The usefulness or otherwise of the special homes and hostels for the aged in our country is difficult to comment upon.
Indeed, one gets affected by the mood of the time. To me the temptation is to reflect on the broader sweep of events. In the recent past rapid changes have taken place all over the world. We are witnessing too much violent self-assertion by people, of their ethnic identity in different corners of the world. Powerful economic forces are deciding almost everything in all areas of human existence, more than at any time in the past.
Psychological changes accompany the passing of years. These changes include slowness of thinking, impairment of recent memory, reduction of surgency enthusiasm, increased cautiousness, and changes in sleep patterns with a tendency to daytime naps.

Ayuvedic Management of ADHD

 Concept of mental health has been dealt in great detail in Ayurveda. Understanding childhood neurobehavioral diseases according to principles of Ayurveda helps in proper diagnosis and management. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common Neurobehavioral childhood disorders and can continue through adolescence and adulthood. Child suffering from ADHD finds difficulty staying focused and paying attention, difficulty controlling behavior, and hyperactivity.

 
Types of ADHD
1. Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive
2. Predominantly inattentive
3. Combined hyperactive-impulsive and inattentive
 
It is normal for all children to be lacking concentration, hyperactive, or impulsive sometimes, but for children with ADHD, these behaviors are more severe and occur more often. To be diagnosed with the disorder, a child must have symptoms for 6 or more months and to a degree that is greater than other children of the same age.
 
 Your child is ADHD ?
Easily distracted, miss details, forget things, and frequently switches from one activity to another.
Difficulty focusing on one thing.
Bored with a task only after a few minutes, unless they are doing something enjoyable.
Difficulty in focusing attention on organizing and completing a task or learning something new
Troubled with  completing or turning in homework assignments, often losing things (e.g., pencils, toys, assignments) needed to complete tasks or activities
Does not pays attention to what elder say.
Daydreaming, easily confused, and moves slowly
Have difficulty processing information as quickly and accurately as others
Struggle to follow instructions.

The present mankind has always tried to attain peace and happiness through all means. There are so many external and internal stressors which let us to arrive into acute and chronic mental stress. These disorders can affect persons of any age, race, sex, religion, or income. Mental illnesses are the result of a personal weakness, lack of character, or poor upbringing. Mental illness is a physical condition just like asthma or arthritis. It is also like telling a person who has an amputated leg to run across the room. But a person who has mental health issue has a “broken brain”. Mental illness is caused by bad parenting. Because of the fact that most diagnosed individuals come from supportive homes. The mentally ill are violent and dangerous. People with a mental disorder are not smart. Common mental Illnesses in our community are Depression, Mania, Schizophrenia.
Depression: It is a medical issue that affects a persons mood to be down, blue and fed up. In Ayurveda it is called as Avasad or Vishad. The other symptoms are Fatigue or loss of energy, Thoughts of death or suicide, including suicide attempts, Feeling guilty, hopeless or worthless, difficulty in concentrating, remembering or making decisions. Persistent sad, anxious or empty mood, Sleeping too much or too little; odd time of waking, Reduced or increased appetite which results in weight gain or loss, Irritability or restlessness. There is no single cause of depression. But here are some factors that may contribute to it’s development:-Psychological,Biological, Environment.
Mania: It is part of a condition called bipolar disorder, also known as manic- depression.Bipolar disorder usually causes a person’s mood to alternate between symptoms of depression and mania, a heightened energetic state. In Ayurveda it is called as Vatik Unmad. The neurotransmitters: Norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin are the causes of mania and depression. During a manic episode, patients with bipolar disorder have a significantly higher Norepinephrine and epinephrine levels than a depressed or euthymic (normal mood) person.
